Strange scroll-wheel zoom behavior

Using Zoo Design Studio v1.0.0 on Windows 11 Pro, lots of RAM/CPU, good video cards.

When I click [Create Sketch] I get the little pastel three starting planes indicator that invites me to click a plane upon which to create a sketch.

My mouse has a scroll wheel, and using it to zoom in makes the three-axis thing get bigger/closer as one expects, but after a few clicks in the zoom-in direction, it jumps away as if I had scrolled out, but I didn’t.

Repeating this, it cycles around every ~4 zoom-in clicks before it jumps back out again.

The confusing thing is: even though visually the zoom level is jumping around, internally it’s clearly only zooming in internally, +1 +1 +1 every time, so to get back to the “normal” zoom level you have to unwind back out the same way you zoomed in, with the jumpy image making it confusing.

It was suggested on Discord that this is part of resizing the grid as the zoom level changes, which is fair enough, but in the view I’m using there is no grid, and this is really very distracting, especially since you can’t tell by looking where you actually are in the zoom-level until you unwind all of it.

Clearly a low priority item - we should probably be clicking a damn plane rather than zooming all over - but it’s jarring.

Hey @SJFriedl,

I agree with you as well. When we initially built this functionality, we always had the grid on and you could see the grid scaling as you zoomed in and out, but now that we have the option to hide the grid, it can seem like a random jump. We are chatting about it internally as we speak. Thanks for using the product!

Yah, this grid thing is broken in the face of zoom. My tiny model is just three circles (so far), when I’m sort-of zoomed in, I see two of the circles plus the <—> grid dimensioning indicator in the lower right of the grid, which suggests that’s the extent of the design space.

But if I use the scroll wheel to zoom in three clicks, I see a completely empty grid where my objects are somewhere else outside the apparent extent of the design space.

See next post, new users can only apparently embed one item

At this point I have no idea where my objects are and it’s not obvious that I’m way zoomed in.

This really needs some kind of zoom indicator, that perhaps considers the actual bounding box of objects that are in the design space, and shows the percent of that space we’re seeing. In the first picture it would be something like 70% because there’s one circle out of view, but in the second picture it might be 5% visible.

Super zoomed in misleading grid space.
